I love soft and fluffy towels. But sometimes my towels seem a little well lackluster. I wash them and a couple days later they are not very fluffy, so sad! This stems from hard water and detergent build up. Simply your towel fibers are packed down with build up, this also lessens their ability to absorb water!
Want to make your towels soft and fluffy again? Try these easy ideas to put the spring back into your towels :
- Step One: Wash towels with hot water and one cup of distilled white vinegar- no detergent. Vinegar helps break down the mineral buildup from hard water and can help get rid of stains.
- Step Two: Wash again with hot water with 3/4 cup of baking soda. Once again no detergent. This helps break down the residue from detergents and fabric softener and gets rid of any funky odors.
- Step Three: Dry Towels with three new tennis balls to help fluff up the towels in the dryer.
Notes: Separate and wash any towels by color to prevent turning your towels pink or blue, not that this has ever happened to me. Seriously Shout Color Catchers I love you!
Don’t mix baking soda and vinegar. This may be a fun science experiment but not fun in the washing machine.
I would recommend giving this a shot before you run and out buy new towels. It is cheap, and all natural and frugal!
